The County Fair

S, J and I went out to the county fair this afternoon in our town.

We smelled the pigs, cows, and sheep. We walked through the "Kiddie Barnyard," to see gray and white kittens, a donkey and sheep. We stepped over manure in the alley and walked toward the fair barn. We saw exhibits from quilters, craft items, art made by kids, and photos. Of course, we saw the booths, consisting of face painting, several organizations from around town and out of town people. Then we went into the cooler part of the fair barn. We saw 4-H'ers talking to the judges, other 4-H'ers talking amongst each other.

Once in a while someone would talk to S and others would talk to J. After passing by the food stand we left.

This year we aren't as into the fair as previous years. The last two years S was in the parade and we enjoyed seeing her. One year, I remember distinctly that the parade was nearly rained out, but it went on as scheduled. My kids haven't entered items to the fair; they are not in 4-H; and they are not into the rides, because of high prices.

Yes, the county fair is here this weekend but maybe they are looking forward to school instead.

Ha! Not a chance. They look at this time as an end to summer vacation and it just wasn't long enough for them. It never is long enough for kids.
