Here we go!

We are getting set for a trip up to the NE part of KS tomorrow morning. Just hope that everyone will want to get up at the early time.

I was asked why we like KU so much. My brother was an alumnus of KU and I was always in awe of the place. He would drive us around campus whenever he came back from Oregon and his daughter was planning to become a student there. In fact, she spent her senior year in high school in KS so that she could graduate from a Kansas HS and pay Kansas residence tuition. Anyway, this was the plan. She was all geared up to go to her dad's college. She was planning to be on the college swim team, etc. Then the spring semester at HS came and she met this nice foreign exchange student. They just started dating and he had to go back to his county to finish up his schooling. So one thing led to another and he came back to the states. She did not go to KU and ended up going to college in Oregon. They both did and they eventually married fourteen years ago.

Also many of times in March I would visit Oregon and it was around "March Madness" time. We would all be watching KU basketball games while out there. So I guess all of that rubbed off on me.

Sometimes my brother would come back to KS and take us all on a tour of the campus. I can remember him pointing out where he lived on campus during his first year; the William Allen White School of Journalism, the Kansas Union, and of course Allen Fieldhouse. He would take us to downtown Lawrence where we would get t-shirts from a known KU store there.

Then we started taking visits on campus when our kids were little. I remember once when J was still in his stroller, we went to Allen Fieldhouse and "touched" the court. S was probably 5 or 6 then and we were "excited." Then when S was a baby we would REALLY cheer for the basketball team when watching on TV and all of our shouting scared her, but then both S and J got used to it. And now they are strong KU fans.

Every year around spring break we would go to Topeka and then Lawrence. Then we changed it up and got sick of Topeka and stayed strictly in Lawrence. We have been nurturing S and J to become students at KU, even though neither one of us were students there. We both went to small Christian colleges.

J's teacher asked L since when was he KU friendly? L admitted it was when we first dated and got married that he became a KU fan. Like around 1988, during the NCCA final where KU won. Actually L was wanting to go to K-State!

I like how things change! :)
