On the Road, without Charles Kurwalt!

It was a great trip!! We enjoyed in immensely! The next few posts will be based on the Lawrence/KU/Thanksgiving trip!

We were driving down the turnpike and we saw many cars from Texas pass us by. We noticed huge RV's and wondered what "star" could be driving them. We saw a tractor trailer rig pass us and noticeably the little girl was not wearing her seatbelt. She was looking back at us. Parents please buckle your children in the truck/car because face it, that isn't safe!

We went down Flint Hill Scenic Highway and saw Tallgrass praire National Highway, then there was Submarine Veterans Highway (all of these were little sections along the turnpike). Isn't that nice that the submarine veterans were honored in such a way? If you're interested to knowing where this is it is near Emporia.

The Matfield Green Exit has the Knute Rockne Memorial nearby. There is also a McDonald's and a convenient store where many travelers stop. I can remember when rest stops were nothing more than bathrooms outside in a brick building. Now you can stop here and get a Vanilla Cappuccino. Ask S how that tasted!

I picked up the latest copy of "The Tunpike Times," and turned my radio to 1610 AM for the turnpike channel. Nothing like listening to the monotone voice about the conditions of the road and the weather. Yawn!!

Big excitement came when there was a turn off for the Bazaar Cattle pens. It must be exciting if your not from Kansas. Looking out there in the pens, however, there is no cattle to be found. Darn!

The weather was misting with the temperature dropping rapidly. Our radio antenna accumulated ice on it. I can't believe it as the day before it was 70 for a high. The temperature nearing Lawrence is only 30! Welcome to Kansas where the weather changes pretty fast from one day to the next.

While walking on campus and downtown we get pellted with stinging sleet/snow combination.

Next....the KU game!!! WOW!!
